Drywall Up and Window is Framed

My work has been put on hold for a while because I have started another big project at my Dads house. We have ripped the roof off of part of his house and we are adding a second floor. It has been a fun but tiring challenge to take this all on at once. I do my normal 24 hour shift for my job, then on my days off I  head up to my dads house from about 830 till 5 and finally try to knock out a few hours of work on my house from 5 till 9 or so every night. I think the long hours of working hard is good for you.

We were able to get the drywall up this Christmas Eve which makes a very big difference in the Kitchen. I also knocked out the framing of the rough opening  for our new window which should be arriving in the next week or so.

On The Way Back Up

We had a productive couple of days, in fact we got a tremendous amount of work done in a few days. I built a new chase that the built-in double ovens will fit in and this also conceals the plumbing and electrical lines.I was able to rewire the entire kitchen with the help of a friend from work. This was one of the dirtiest jobs so far requiring me to spend hours on my back in the crawl space but I am proud to say I didn’t get bit by a wire even once. It was worth it, we ripped out the entire old system and reran everything. Added receptacles, under cabinet lighting, 220’s for the ovens and cooktop, and so on. I have always had a pretty good understanding of electricity but after running 6 or 7 new circuits I feel much more comfortable. After getting the wiring finished up, I was able to get the insulation up on the ceilings and walls tonight. You can already feel the difference in the house. It has been getting down in the teens outside at night, and we have not had insulation for a couple of weeks.

Overall it is nice to see progress starting to show as the guts of the new kitchen take shape.
